Can Chiropractic Help Headaches?

For years, chiropractic adjustments have been a treatment choice for headaches and migraines. Studies have shown that people who received chiropractic adjustments for their headaches and migraines showed improvement in duration, frequency, and intensity.

Migraines

Migraines are headaches with severe pulsing or throbbing head pain. This pain is often isolated to one side and can be so severe it’s debilitating. These headaches can last anywhere from an hour to days. Many people with migraines report seeing an aura prior to the headache. Often a stiff neck is a precursor to a migraine. A chiropractic adjustment will stop or at least lessen the intensity of the migraine.

Tension Headache

A tension headache responds well to chiropractic care. This is the most common type of headache and involves pain in the head, neck, and behind the eyes. These headaches are often associated with neck strain and can also be the result of trauma to the spine. Tension headaches can also occur with poor posture, eye strain, fatigue, and stress.

Sinus Headache

Sinus headaches usually occur above the eyes or in the cheeks and are the result of allergies or an infection. Chiropractic adjustments can assist in the drainage of the mucous and allow the opening of the sinus.
