Misconception: Chiropractors can perform surgery and prescribe medications

Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs nor do they perform surgery. Chiropractic is based on the idea that the body is able to heal itself and the chiropractor helps the body to realize its innate ability to do so.

Misconception: Chiropractors are not real doctors

Chiropractors are certified doctors, schooled in a specific field of medicine. They must pass national board exams and licensing tests like all certified doctors before they can practice.

Misconception: People who have had back surgery cannot go to a chiropractor

People who have had back surgery, even steel rods in their backs, can still enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care. Chiropractors base treatment plans on each patient’s different needs and situations.
