Nutrition and Chiropractic Care: Health for Your Whole Body

You are what you eat.

Proper nutrition is necessary for good musculoskeletal health. If you are seeing a chiropractic to recover from an injury or just to maintain musculoskeletal health, nutrition becomes even more important. Nutrition and chiropractic care are interwoven to the point where even the slightest nutritional mishap can take away from all the good work you have done with your chiropractor.

A body that is fed whole foods and proper nutritional supplements can build and rebuild all the tissues of the body. If you have a poor diet compounded with bad eating habits, your body will not operate at its optimal efficiency which will make you feel tired all of the time. As a result of this inefficient operation, your body will start to break down. If you tend to eat a lot of processed foods, sugar and empty calories that have no real nutritional value, you are setting yourself up for inflammation. Inflammation leads to severe joint pain among other painful health conditions.

Your chiropractor can work with you to ensure that you are eating a proper diet that contains fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, low-fat dairy, and healthy fats.

  • Fresh vegetables contain vitamins and minerals that your body needs and they are high in fiber. 7-9 servings of fresh vegetables a day is what you should aim for and these should include carrots, spinach, kale, tomatoes, legumes, cabbage, and peppers.

  • Fresh fruits in season are full of antioxidants. Include cherries, red grapes, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, and pomegranates in your diet.

  • Whole grains such as whole wheat bread, oats, and brown rice are good choices that help the body to function with fiber and valuable amino acids.

When you eat well, your body runs at its optimum best, making it an efficient machine. When you eat well and nourish your body in conjunction with chiropractic care, you increase your chances of successful treatment. As you improve your nutrition, you may find that you need fewer chiropractic adjustments.
